Talk touring with Jordana

Shot and written by Sophie Gurwitz

You’ve toured with Wallows, Local Natives, and Remi Wolf, as well as a headlining tour this past year. What’s your favorite and least favorite thing about touring?

My favorite thing about touring is seeing what each city is like, and also the food that they have. I’m a vegan so finding really good vegan spots or even just dishes is like finding a golden egg. My least favorite is definitely the driving, but even then there are really beautiful sights.

What are some tour essentials?

Tour essentials include a pack of Ricola, a pack of strings and picks, some earplugs or earphones, some kind of snack, and don’t forget the Gumby figure!

How’s it been on the road with Remi Wolf and her team?

It’s been pretty chill! Everyone is super nice and close and they work really hard to put on a good show. That’s really all you need in a team —- people who work really well together and enjoy each other’s company all at the same time. It’s admirable!

Describe your sound and style.

Someone on Remi’s team described my sound as an “ethereal Paramore” and I honestly can’t stop thinking about it. I would say, live, it’s like, beach festival music…? I really have no idea how I am perceived unless it’s straight to my face!

What’s been your favorite fan interaction?

Someone in Toronto came up to me and said they discovered me through their crush who actually sent them my song to show that she liked them back! They said they didn’t realize until they read the lyrics out. It was really cute.

You’ve previously collaborated with TV Girl, Magdalena Bay, and Ryan Woods. What’s your dream collaboration?

I would absolutely love to collaborate with either Toro Y Moi or Aldous Harding. Very different music compared, but just as important to me. I love them a lot.

Who’s been your biggest musical influence?

Since I was a youngling, it was The Strokes and Grizzly Bear. I got to see Daniel Rossen of Grizzly Bear play a live solo set in Brooklyn and it was everything I could’ve ever dreamt of. They’ve definitely shaped me as an artist from the get go.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

I see myself touring a lot more if I don’t damage my eardrums. I’m super paranoid about that now. Some shows are so so so loud even on stage it’s crazy. But definitely doing my little thing, playing my little solos and singing my little heart out. All that while dancing around
