Kim Kardashian is announced the new face of Balenciaga
On the first of February, Balenciaga announced Kim Kardashian as the fashion house's new ambassador via an instagram post, simply captioned "Kim for Balenciaga"., Kim has been team Balenciaga preceding this announcement, though, making appearances in eye-catching looks from couture at Kanye's Donda tour to her masked look at the Met Gala (both spearheaded by the brand's creative director, Demna Gvasalia).
In October, Kim appeared around New York wearing a multitude of form fitting pink Balenciaga looks. Kanye West, the mogul's ex husband, was also seen wearing the brand, encouraging rumors that the brand was sponsoring their divorce. With many arguing that their wardrobes were too cohesive to be coincidence, the conversation no doubt sent the fashion house major publicity. Following Balenciaga's collaboration with The Simpsons and Fortnite, the brand's collaboration with Kim is a step away from the metaverse. The socialite joined the likes of Isabelle Huppert and Justin Bieber in the campaign, which captured the celebrities at their places of work. Up until now, Kim Kardashian had beenon a fashion campaign hiatus since showcasing a variety of Balmain Spring/Summer 2015 looks with divorcee, Kanye West.

The bag is a reinvention of the iconic City Bag -a hallmark of the early 2000's often seen on Kim's predecessor, Paris Hilton. In this sense, Balenciaga bringing Kardashian on is completely on par with history. Virtual clothing platform Love the Sales says there has been a major increase in demand for the pieces worn by Kardashian, who happens to be the eighth most followed person on instagram. Demand has exploded for leopard-print coats (+513%) and neon green bags (+325%) in just one day, proving both Demna Gvasaliaand Kim Kardashian' business savviness. We're excited to see what's in store for both superstars throughout the rest of 2022.
