GOVBALL ‘22

By Lucy Ivey

If you grew up in New York, there is no way you haven’t heard of the Governors Ball. Govball has been the perfect way for gen z-ers across the city to start off their summers. The festival started on Governors island in 2011. Since then, the festival has had incredible headliners like Jack White, Travis Scott, Lorde, Drake, The Strokes and more.

This year, the lineup consisted of some amazing artists like Clairo, Del Water Gap, COIN, Glass Animals and more.

Our editor in chief, Lucy attended the festival for the first time in June and documented her experience for you all.

Indie rock band DEHD hit the Gopuff stage on the second day of govball. The bands punk influenced tracks were the perfect way to start off the day.

Almost Monday took the Govball stage by storm. The trio has spent the last few months on tour with The Driver Era. This being their first ever NYC performance was mindblowing.

Gus Dapperton, a gen z favorite performed an incredible set on Saturday afternoon. The artist goofed around on stage wearing his signature black tie.

And my personal favorite, Del Water Gap. 28 year old Holden performed for the first time at Govball this year after attending the festival several times growing up. His set consisted of his hits “Ode to a Conversation Stuck in Your Throat” , “Better Than I Know Myself” and more.

This years lineup was an incredible group of artists that play an important role in gen z’s life. I had an incredible time attending and would recommend this experience to anyone, New Yorker or not!
