A week ago, a representative from 1824, reached out to me about attending a press conference for the band, The Academic. The Academic is a Gen- Z four person band based out of Rochfortbridge Ireland. They’ve sold over 100,000 tickets on tour, and have 600,000+ monthly listeners on Spotify. It was so cool to see a bunch of other publications gather together and get to know this super dope band and hear about their time in quarantine and their new EP that dropped TODAY!!

Being in quarantine was definitely was a hard adjustment for them though. They are so used to being together all the time on tour and getting to jam 24/7. They have been super productive though. They’ve been working hard on new music and have had lots of Zoom sessions to bounce new ideas off of each other, and play from home together.

At the beginning we found it a bit strange to try to create music together because there was such a serious thing happening in the world. It was definitely right of ourselves to give us a bit of time to start back up again. We were able to continue making music but obviously when life isn't happening like there's not much inspiration and you can only write so many songs about going for a walk and seeing a dog.”

The band talked about how they would like to see covid-19 change the music industry in a positive way. One thing they said audiences could do is “maybe supporting artists in a digital way, because a lot of artists rely on touring and shows. Covid has definitely shown that it's important to be able to rely digitally on your audience as well.”

They were super eager to talk about the different artists they’ve gotten to play with. Some of there favorites were The Rolling Stones, and The Strokes.”We were completely starstruck.” They said.

The Academics new EP, acting my age is out now. You can listen on Spotify, apple music, anything! You can follow them on Instagram at @theacademic.
