Meet DWLLRS

By Sophie Gurwitz

DWLLRS, the CA-rooted duo of lifelong friends Bren Eisman and Joey Spurgeon, whose late-night conversations about life, existence, and love evolved into a hit making string of layered and lush alternative pop gems have become the newest addition to the roster of Island Records. We sat down with Joey and Bren to chat about music, tour, fashion, and their recent pit stop in New York City.

Who would you say is your biggest musical influence or inspiration?

I think for the both of us our answer is Frank Ocean and Current joys.

If you could support any artist on tour who would it be and why?

Claire Rosinkranz (we love her so much and we’re going on tour w/ her in February/March)!!! She’s an outstanding, self-aware, and honest artist who is building her brand in a unique way and were honored to be apart of it.

How would you describe your music?

The sonic expression of two young men tapping into their self-hatred, eternal dread, unrequited love, and hope that it will get better someday.

If you could trade wardrobes with a celebrity who would it be?

Bren loves Role Model’s style while Joey is staying cozy and trading w/ adam sandler

What are your top three favorite clothing brands?

Basketcase, Rhythm, and Brixton for the both of us.

What is your current favorite fashion trend?

Bren’s been rocking jorts and baggy pants, Joey wears ugg slippers everywhere including while he performs at shows.

If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life what would it be?

Bren - Frank Ocean: Hobbes

Joey - Current Joys: Home pt. 1/2

Kiss, marry, kill: tour, photoshoots, writing sessions

Kill photoshoots immediately, smooching tour (make it a 3 year tour or something), and gonna settle down with writing sessions.

What is your favorite song you’ve written?

Our favorite one that we’ve released is “We’re All Just Falling and Flying” but some of our new songs that are unreleased might be our new favorites.

Who is your biggest music inspiration?

Each other

Coming from the west coast, what was your favorite thing about hanging out and performing in New York City?

We actually loved the cold weather because we don't get much of that where we live. We also love the people and the food and how beautiful everyone is.

How has your style changed from releasing your first single back in 2020, to the release of your newest single, Dividends?

We still are lyrically touching on the same stuff that we’ve been writing about but we really stripped this last release back and took a more acoustic approach. We are always incorporating new sounds and influences and we are really excited about where our music is taking us.
