Tanner Ritchie and Fletcher Kasell of Tanner Fletcher have transported us out of 2025 Manhattan into a 1940s dance party where vintage meets modern. For their Fall/Winter 2025 collection, the young designer-duo curated an intimate preview in their Chelsea studio to show off their largest collection to date. Upon entering the designers’ dreamy studio after ascending three flights of stairs to their “tea room,” one could see models sauntering around the room in beautiful hues of blue and oxblood, while guests gathered around a long ornamental wooden table serving donuts and pastries perfectly arranged on vintage tableware.
Tanner Fletcher took this opportunity to have guests step back into past eras through playful spirits clued by not only their award-show suiting and statement eveningwear designs, but their interior decor incorporating ruffles, quilts and draped silhouettes reminiscent of vintage curtains. Highlighting the contemporary brand’s desire to play with color, the collection’s palette features include rich oxblood and soft dusty blue, complemented by ivory, black, and brown neutrals.
“For Fall/Winter 2025, we are going back to craft. We've learned a lot in terms of craft from sourcing antiques and vintage home treasures. People often say, "things just aren't made the way they used to be". We're inspired to get as close to ‘what used to be’ as possible” said Tanner Richie and Fletcher Kassel, founders of Tanner Fletcher.
Reverting to what used to be by creating a well-crafted collection, standout pieces Tanner showed me exemplified a development in their knitwear and dresses - a black and off-white sweater vest applicated with vintage buttons and a polka dot gown reinvigorating an early 40s tea dress. A throughline in the 48 look collection was their signature lace finished off with frills apparent on their suits, the lining of their corduroy pants and along the hemlines of their dresses.
Tying into the collection’s "Dance Party" theme — born from the need for joy and escapism in challenging times — the lookbook displayed on an ivory ruffled curtain in the front of the studio showed models photographed in each look filmed dancing in their own authentic styles.
